Are You Triggered?
Understanding the Call of the Soul to Return to Love
In the sacred dance between shadow and Light, there are moments when something touches a raw place inside you; suddenly, the air shifts, the heart races, and your system reacts. This is what we call being “triggered.” But beneath that reaction lies something deeper: a call from the soul.
To be triggered is not just a nervous system flare. It is a sacred summons; your spirit’s way of saying, “Here lies something still bound in fear, lost in shadow. Bring Love here.”
We are not punished by our triggers. We are invited; into awareness, into healing, into remembrance.
🧠 Encoded in the Body: The Faces of Survival
When we are triggered, it’s not random. It’s patterned. And the patterns are ancient.
Rooted in survival, encoded in our bodies, and shaped by trauma; past and ancestral.
At the heart of our triggered reactions lie four core trauma responses:
Fight: The warrior response. Defensiveness, anger, or confrontation as protection.
Flight: The runner. Anxiety, avoidance, or distraction becomes the sanctuary.
Freeze: The stillness. Numbness, shutdown, or dissociation in the face of overwhelm.
Fawn: The appeaser. People-pleasing, self-abandonment, or blending in to stay safe.
These responses are not failures. They are brilliant adaptations; coded strategies that once kept you alive.
But in the present moment, they may no longer serve who you are becoming.
Recognizing when we are triggered is the first step on the path to healing. It requires a mindful awareness of our body’s signals, emotions, and thought patterns. Signs may include a rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, a sense of detachment, or an overwhelming urge to flee or confront.
🧘♀️ Mindfulness Techniques to Navigate the Storm
The nervous system doesn’t need to be shamed, it needs to be soothed. These techniques can help restore calm, presence, and connection when your body is in survival mode:
- Deep Breathing: Inhale presence, exhale the past. Feel each breath as a reset.
- Grounding: Place bare feet on the earth or visualize energetic roots stabilizing your body.
- Mindful Observation: Witness your emotions without judging them. Say: “This is energy moving.”
- Centering in the Heart: Place a hand over your heart and whisper, “I am safe now.”
Each moment of presence is a message to your nervous system: The danger has passed. We can come home now.
🌒 From Trigger to Transformation
Every trigger is a thread and if you pull it gently, it leads you deeper into the root. That root is often pain… but pain is not the enemy. It’s the messenger. The portal.
When you meet the moment with Love (not bypass, not blame, but compassion) you begin to shift the timeline.
You rewire the belief.
You end the karmic loop.
You create safety where there was none.
And from safety, the soul can speak again.
🌟 The Spiritual Journey: From Reaction to Remembrance
Your triggers are not just psychological, they are spiritual invitations.
Each one carries an encoded lesson, a hidden fragment of the Self waiting to be reclaimed.
By turning toward them, we align with the soul’s evolutionary path; ascending not away from our shadows, but through them, with eyes open and heart intact.
You are not weak because you are triggered.
You are wise because you are willing to meet it differently.
The Divine, in all its Infinite Intelligence, isn’t punishing you.
It is preparing you, guiding you to become the one who can walk through fire without burning, because you have remembered that you are the Light.
May your next trigger be met not with fear, but with fierce Love.
May you pause, breathe, and bless the part of you still learning to trust.
And may every shadow lead you closer (not further) to the home inside your heart.
